Our Story
Under the guidance of Founding Pastor G. Patrick White, 70 Christian friends met on December 7, 1993 and discussed the possibility of gathering a new and "different" church to the Allegan area. We found ourselves like-minded and moved by God's Spirit to gather such a church. Much to our amazement, within weeks such a church was experiencing the birthing process. The major focus of this new community of faith was, and continues to be, the development of a non-traditional and culturally relevant Christian fellowship for those who seek to focus energy and resource on ministry and missions rather than on the maintenance of a facility. Today, the highest priority of Christ Community continues to be the reaching out to neighbors, friends, fellow workers and classmates with the story of Jesus Christ. Our soul concern is reaching the lost for Christ!
In November of 1994 our congregation, less than a year old, contracted to purchase 20 acres of land on the southwest outskirts of Allegan (3370 113th - a continuation of Ely Street near the Littlejohn County Park complex) for a building site. Within nine months this property had been paid for.
In March of 1996 members of the congregation, along with much volunteer help, began building a new meetinghouse. This facility includes a sanctuary which seats 375, a large fellowship hall, kitchen, office suite, library, pastor's study, restrooms, spacious nursery and toddler area, Sunday school classes, as well as two outbuildings--the Youth Building and The Vine Food Pantry, and an earthen amphitheater that will eventually seat over a thousand. This facility was completed and the first worship service was held on Christmas Eve 1996.
